The FIU Audit Director reports directly to the University Board of Trustees, Finance and Audit Committee. This reporting structure helps ensure the independence of the Internal Audit staff, promotes broad coverage, and enhances adequate consideration of reports and effective action on recommendations.

The FIU Audit Director also has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the University President. This reporting structure ensures relative independence of auditors/investigators to effectively carry out their function.

As with any other profession, maintaining a current level of competence is imperative. Beyond the continuing professional education credit requirements for each professional certification, Florida State Statutes require our auditors to complete 80 hours of biennial continuing professional education credits, 24 hours of which must be governmental accounting and auditing.
