DYNAMIC COLLABORATIONS
ENGAGING EDUCATIONAL AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS
In addition to continued collaborations
with previous employers, FIU researchers
have developed dynamic partnerships with
leading academic institutions such as Cornell,
Yale, Carnegie Mellon, Reneselaer Polytechnic
Institute, North Carolina State, University
of California at San Diego, Stony Brook,
Houston, University of Central Florida and
University of Texas at Dallas. Companies
such as Motorola, Hitachi, Semiconductor
Research Corporation, Omega-P and Intelligent
Micropatterning, as well as several national
labs, and NASA-Ames are valued partners
as well.
Several FIU researchers
are already helping small companies develop
new nanotechnologies,
and the university continues to work closely
with many large and small biotechnology
companies in South Florida, many of whom
are members of FIU’s Partnership Program
in Biomedical Engineering.
RESEARCH SUPPORT
BELIEF IN OUR VISION
The ground-breaking
research being conducted at FIU’s
Motorola Nanofabrication Research Facility
has not gone unnoticed.
More than $4 million in nanotechnology research
funding was committed to FIU in the six
months prior to the dedication ceremony
(2005) by the National Science Foundation,
Air Force Office of Scientific Research,
the Semi-Conductor Research Corporation,
the U.S. Department of Energy, and industry.
Support from FIU’s
leaders has been critical in building
the nanotechnology
research enterprise. Kinzy Jones gives a
guided tour of the facility to Provost Rosenberg
and other FIU officials.
