ASME Region XI Spring Combined Conferences was held in Miami, Florida on April 3-6, 2003. ASME Florida International University (FIU) Student Section organized the conference with the assistance of University of Miami (UM) Student Setion and the ASME Miami Section.

This page presents some photos taken during the Honors and Awards Banquet which was held Saturday, April 5, 2003. Some of the awardees are pictured below due to a low battery problem in the camera. During this event, winners of all competitions are awarded certificates, plaques and in some cases checks as announced ealier. We congratulate the winners as well as all of the participants for their creative designs and good sportsmanship.

Student Design Competition First Place Winners: Jose Pinto, Omar Restrepo and Korhian Teh, representing the University of South Alabama, receive the trophy and cash award for their design named High Roller. This design will represent Region XI at the International ASME IMECE Conference to be held in Washinton, DC in November 2003. Good luck!!!

FIU's Jorge Sotelo accepts his award as the winner of Web Page Design Contest with his entry "Computational Fluids Dynamics on Microcarrier Design in Tissue Engineering."


Salim Nasser received the second best Oral Presentation Award. His presentation was entitled "Pulling Wheel System for Wheelchairs."


Dr. Dan Cox received a certificate for establishing a new student section at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida.


Annmarie Uskert, Student SSC Rep for Region XI, received a certificate for her good work. Annmarie attends University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.


Rosalee Martinez, Chair of ASME FIU Student Section, was elected to represent Region XI as student SSC rep.
