PURPOSE: To mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their alma mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as undergraduates in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges. ELIGIBILITY: The students of engineering whose scholarship places them in the highest one-eighth of the junior class or in the highest one-fifth of the senior class are further considered for membership on the basis of character, integrity, breadth of interest, and unselfish activities. MAJOR ACTIVITIES: Numerous college-service projects are conducted, like awards to outstanding students, tutoring, faculty rating, lectureships, school-wide social events, and loaning funds for initiation fees and school needs. The ten most important national projects are the graduate fellowship, national scholarship, district, engineering futures, chapter performance scholarship, student loan, greater interest in government, national outstanding advisor, outstanding alumnus, and laureate programs. Since establishment of the annual fellowship program in 1929, 780 students have been given stipends exceeding $3,677,000. The educational loan program has allowed more than 1,740 students to borrow more than $740,000 from the Association since 1932. The national scholarship program has provided awards of $70,000 to 35 students since 1998. OFFICIAL CONTACT: James D. Froula, P.E., 508 Dougherty Engineering Building, P.O.
