!Attention
Students!
The
following are services that the EIC account
offers you:
Data
Storage in our servers: It is called
the “H drive”.
In
the “H drive”, you can save
up to 100 Mb of “academic
related data” that can be
accessed in any computer lab in the engineering
building by logging in with the given EIC
account. This comes with a print
quota of 45 pages per week without
roll over. The print quota is subject to
change.
Access
to your data through internet connection:
1. Access
to the data through Internet Explorer:
By going to http://netstorage.eng.fiu.edu,
students are prompted for the Username and Password. This allows them to see
their account mappings, including the H drive. This application lets the user
do everything they normally do with folders and files (move, delete, rename,
etc) “exept” download and upload folder.
They can download and upload files, but not folders.
2. FTP
service: The FTP ( File Transfer
Protocol ) service lets students access
only their H drive through an internet
browser. By going to ftp://ftp.eng.fiu.edu,
students can do everything they normally
do with files and folders, “including
downloading and uploading folders”.
3. Creation
Web folder ( win 2k & winXP only
): This service also allows
students to access their mappings, including
the H drive. A web folder is like a network
link that in this particular case would
communicate students to their data. To
create a web folder, double click in “My
Network Places” icon on the desktop.
Then, double click on the “Add
Network Place” icon to get the “Welcome
to the Add Network Place Wizad” window
that is going to guide you through the
creation of the web folder. Type https://netstorage.eng.fiu.edu/oneNet/Netstorage in
the wizard window for the location of
the network place and hit next until
it asks you for a name for the folder.
Give it a name like “EIC account” or
any other name you prefer. Hit finish.
Now, there is a web folder ( or link
) in “My Network place” that
links the student to the his/her mappings.
To access the H drive just double click
in the folder created and type the Username
and Password. https://netstorage.eng.fiu.edu/oneNet/Netstorage
4. Your
own web page from your H drive: Create
a folder called “public_html” in
the H drive. Put your HTML code in this
folder and access it through the web
by typing http://web.eng.fiu.edu/~username.
Be aware that the first page of your
web site that will be displayed is the
one named "index.html" or "Index.htm".
