Faculty Position in Water Resources

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Water Resources Engineering. Applications will primarily be considered at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full-Professor. Candidates should be specialized within hydrologic and hydraulics engineering areas and have demonstrated research accomplishments in specific or combined applications of ecosystem, watershed and groundwater hydrology, surface-groundwater interactions, stormwater drainage and flood management, sediment transport, water quality estimation, statistical methods, and modeling.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a strongly-funded research program and cooperate, as needed, with multi-disciplinary groups of faculty and professionals of university academic units and research centers including the Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technologies, the Southeast Environmental Research Center, and the International Hurricane Center. Among others, funding opportunities are currently linked to federal and state legislation and programs to restore, preserve and protect the Florida Everglades ecosystem and inter-connected water-rich land and coastal environments, while providing regional water supply needs and flood protection.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, and an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and to make curricular contributions to the ABET-accredited undergraduate civil engineering program and graduate civil engineering programs. Possession of Professional Engineering registration or ability to become a registered professional engineer in Florida within the first 4 years of appointment is required. For best consideration, applications should be received by February 28, 2005. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
