CEE approved to offer Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering Starting Fall 2006 The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has been approved by the Board of Trustees of the Florida International University to offer the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering starting Fall 2006. The new degree program responds to the challenges of the 21st century by bringing engineering and science curricula together to prepare the students for the diverse environmental problems that have to be solved today and in the near future. The BS Degree in Environmental Engineering requires 126 credit hours that include mathematics, science, engineering, humanities and social science courses in full compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The intensive curriculum is designed to provide the students with a solid foundation of knowledge, in depth and breadth, which is necessary to produce the best and most cost-effective engineering solutions to local and global environmental problems. The significance of environmental problems in impacting the quality of life have significantly expanded the job opportunities for environmental engineers both locally and globally, making it the number one engineering degree among the “Fastest Growing Professional Jobs” with 54% projected increase in demand. The unique link between environmental quality and economic vitality in South Florida has created a major market for qualified environmental professionals in South Florida.
