HJ fOUNDATION donates $20,000 to the FIU Construction and Structures Lab

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at FIU is proud to announce that HJ Foundation, Florida's leading deep foundation contractor, has donated $20,000 to the FIU Construction and Structures Lab (CSL).

The Construction and Structures Lab at FIU was recently completed through the help of a consortium of industry partners which donated materials and services from concrete and reinforcing steel to engineering and construction work. As one of the largest facility of its kind in Florida, the strong floor in the lab is about 36 ft x 63 ft x 4 ft, with a tie-down pattern of 3 ft x 6 ft, and 100,000 safe uplift force at each tie-down. The total high-bay area is 85 ft x 75 ft, which allows testing full-scale structural members, such as bridge girders of up to 70 ft length.

Since 1988, HJ Foundation, headquartered in Miami, Florida, has constructed foundations for top commercial and municipal projects in South Florida. The company offers services such as augered pile construction, vibro-compaction, and excavation shoring throughout the state of Florida. With a team of experienced employees, including those who custom-build company equipment, the company provides construction and engineering expertise and oversees project efficiency. With regional and national companies among its clients, it has constructed foundations for the American Airlines Arena, National Car Rental Center, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and the Diplomat Hotel and Convention Center, among many others.
