CEE Hosts First Concrete Exposure Day

In collaboration with the Florida Concrete and Products association, Florida International University’s (FIU) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) hosted the “First Concrete Exposure Day” on its Engineering Campus in Miami on Saturday, May 5th, 2007.

The event was organized by both, CEE and the Florida Concrete and Products Association, and featured expositions and field demonstrations by more than twelve companies as well as plant tours of some of the largest cement, concrete and blocks queries and plants in the country.

More than 200 engineers, architect, contractors, sub contractors, suppliers, and students from more than 40 different companies attended this educational event to witness demonstrations on self-consolidated concrete, pervious concrete, flowable fill, fiber-mesh concrete slabs, and others. Companies such as Rinker Materials, Super Mix, Continental Heidelberg, Tarmac, and Superblock had their concrete trucks and pumps on-site for display and their staff to conduct demos and answer questions from the enthusiastic crowds.

Busses were provided to take attendees on plant and factory tours. Breakfast and lunch were also provided along with prizes and a Mariachi band to round up the Cinco De Mayo one-of-a-kind event. The event was staffed by the FIU American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
