CEE Faculty Elected ASCE Fellow!

CEE faculty Dr. Berrin Tansel was elected as the Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Tansel joined the department in 1990. Last year, Dr. Tansel led CEE efforts to start a new BS degree program in Environmental Engineering. The program responds to the challenges of the 21st century by bringing engineering and science curricula together to prepare the students for the diverse environmental problems that have to be solved today and in the near future.

In recent years, Dr. Tansel has worked with researchers atNASA Kennedy Space Center to develop a closed loop water recovery system. NASA Kennedy Space Center to

develop a closed loop water recovery system. She has also developed methods to improve the operation of membrane filtration systems. Her research is published in the areas of wastewater treatment processes, desalination and drinking water treatment. Another area where Dr. Tansel is actively involved is the outreach efforts through the Center for Diversity in Engineering and Computing. She has developed modules for use at public schools by students and teachers to disseminate skills for training and educating the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Congratulations to Dr. Tansel!
