The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Material Science and Engineering is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving scientific and technological environment in the 21st century. The Doctoral program is designed to provide students with fundamental, traditional core courses coupled with specializations in a particular advanced field of interest.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
FIU and the College of Engineering and Computing offer a variety of financial aid opportunities and scholarships to qualified students. The amounts and eligibility requirements of these awards vary depending on the type of award. Merit-based financial assistance is highly competitive, hence, students are encouraged to apply early. Degree Requirements
The Doctorate program will consist of at least 78 semester credit hours beyond the baccalaureate degree (or 48 credits beyond a master's degree), of which at least 54 credit hours correspond to course work and 24 credits to dissertation. PhD students must take a qualifying exam, a graduate seminar, a comprehensive candidacy examination, and successfully submit and defend a dissertation. A minimum 18 credit hours of residency must be completed within a 12 month period. For additional information, please click here
